So, how was your weekend?
Don’t ask that question of any member of the U.S. Senate – because they were all working. Both Saturday and Sunday. On health care.
And it’s about time. They should have finished health care a long time ago.
To goose them along, even President Obama dropped in on Sunday afternoon. It was a closed door meeting, so we don’t know exactly what happened.
But we can only hope that President Obama looked across the table at three Democrats who are against the public plan option: Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, and Blanche Lincoln.
We can only hope that he looked at those three so-called Democrats and said: We Democrats have been fighting for universal health care reform since the days of Franklin Roosevelt.
We’re closer than we’ve ever been before. And, in order for there to be real health care reform, there must be a public plan option.
So, I just want you to know, Senators. You may try to kill this bill. But, if you do, you’re going to pay the price.
Because we’ll run a candidate against you in your next primary election. I, Barack Obama, will personally campaign against you. And you – Blanche Lincoln, Ben Nelson, and Mary Landrieu – will soon be out of a job.
I sure hope that’s what happened. No more nice guy, Barack. Time to get tough.
That’s my parting shot for today.
