They didn’t have much left, but – Any shred of credibility that Fox News still had was lost this week, when they hired Sarah Palin as a political commentator.
What a sad joke.
First, the suggestion that she has any insights to offer is insulting. Say what you will about their politics, Fox contributors Newt Gingrich and Karl Rove are nonetheless smart and thoughtful. Palin is neither.
Second, no matter how unqualified, she’s clearly not interested in a television career. Like Mike Huckabee, she’s just camping out at Fox until she decides what office she’s running for next. Which is, or should be, against FCC regulations.
But the hiring of Sarah Barracuda says more about Fox News than it does about Palin herself.
They have now, finally, exposed themselves as nothing more than the media wing of the Republican National Committee – where any old Republican has-been can get a job – and where endless reputation of RNC talking points substitutes for any real reporting.
Seriously, after hiring contributors Newt Gingrich, Karl Rove, and Mike Huckabee – on top of hosts Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, and Glenn Beck – did they really need Sarah Palin?
One thing Fox News has never been and is now, less than ever: Fair and Balanced.
That’s my parting shot for today.
