It didn’t take long.
Just six weeks ago, after the mid-term elections, everyone was writing President Obama’s political obituary. He’s dead. He’s toast.
It didn’t take long. Today, everybody’s talking about the come-back kid. And rightfully so. Just look at the last two weeks.
Obama set several priorities for the lame-duck session. And, except for the Dream Act, he’s achieved every one of them.
The Food Nutrition bill. Signed into law on December 13.
The Tax Cut Deal – signed into law on December 17.
The Repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Signed into law today.
Ratification of the New Start Treaty. Wins approval of over two-thirds of Senators from both parties, despite the opposition of the two top Republicans, Mitch McConnell and John Kyl.
And, along the way, Obama also won confirmation of 19 judicial appointments, some of whom had been lingering in the Senate since last January.
Agree with all of it or not, that’s a blockbuster two weeks for any president.
And it’s a hell of an impressive conclusion to Obama’s first two years in office.
Now, just wait till next year!
That’s my parting shot for today.
