It’s getting ugly out there, folks.
First, a reporter in Alaska is handcuffed for merely asking Joe Miller a question.
In Kentucky, a Democratic volunteer has her head stomped on just for showing up at a Rand Paul rally. In Virginia, a Democratic voter is roughed up by police just for showing up at an Eric Cantor meet and greet. In Washington state, a female Democratic volunteer is punched for standing in front of Dino Rossi headquarters.
This is no sign of the passion of politics. This is pure, un-American violence. It’s disgusting. It’s dangerous. And it’s the direct result of the intolerance, hatred, and ugly rhetoric heard every day the Tea Party – and encouraged by the Republican Party.
And make no mistake about it, this violence stems directly from the non-stop toxic talk Tea Partiers hear from right-wing talk radio. Like would-be Bay Area mass murderer Byron Williams, who said he was inspired by Glenn Beck.
Now, here’s the worst part: To date, not one Republican leader has condemned the violence. Instead, in each case, they have blamed the victim for stirring up trouble.
Maybe we should rename the Tea Party the Thug Party.
That’s my parting shot for today.
