It’s silly season. That period so close to an election when nobody really knows what’s going to happen, but everybody has a prediction – and doesn’t hesitate to broadcast it, no matter how stupid.
But, of all the dumb comments I’ve heard about the mid-term elections yet, one by Fox News pollster Doug Schoen takes the cake. He told the New York Times that the best thing that could happen to President Obama – would be to lose one of both houses of Congress to Republicans. “That’s what Obama should be praying for,” he said.
Now, I’ve known Schoen a long time and consider him a friend, but he’s dead wrong about that one.
Seriously, look what Republicans have been able to block by being in the minority. Does anybody really thing they’re going to be more cooperative with Obama when they’re in control?
If Republicans win either the House of Senate, it’ll mean: no immigration reform, no global warming bill, no end to Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, no new energy policy, no new jobs bill.
Plus an end to health care reform and all regulations on Wall Street.
I’m sorry. Anybody who thinks that’s good for President Obama, or the country – is crazy.
That’s my parting shot for today.
