As a Democrat, I’ve never had so much fun in my life…as I’m having this year, watching the Republican Party self-destruct.
In this insane primary season, they’ve ended up with four finalists – one of whom is a terrible candidate, and the other three of whom are crazy.
The craziest of all is Rick Santorum – and the fact that Republicans have made him the only serious challenger to Mitt Romney proves, not only how much they dislike Romney, but how determined they are to lose in November.
Santorum proved how crazy he is again this weekend by attacking what historians consider one of the most important speeches given by any president.
In 1960, when the Catholic John F. Kennedy ran for president, Americans were worried his first allegiance would be to the Pope, not to the people of the United States. But JFK told Baptist ministers in Houston that his primary loyalty was to his country, not to his church.
Now Rick Santorum says that JFK’s historic speech made him want to “throw up.”
So there you have it: JFK said his first loyalty was to the United States. Rick Santorum says his first loyalty is to the Catholic Church.
You decide which one is a true American.
That’s my parting shot for today.
