For some reason, I’ve always been attracted to Ron Paul. That’s why I’ve invited him on our radio show so many times. For the same reason so many liberals like Ron Paul…
Because, unlike too many politicians, he’s authentic, he’s consistent, he’s quick to speak his mind, he’s the real thing. He was Tea Party before Tea Party was cool.
But now that he’s become a serious contender for the Republican nomination for president, we liberals have to think twice about Ron Paul.
Yes, he was against the war in Iraq. But he’s also against sanctions against Iran, and thinks it was wrong to track down and kill Osama bin Laden.
Yes, he thinks we have to shrink the national debt. But that means he would shut down the Fed and the EPA – and eliminate Social Security and Medicare.
Yes, he thinks government is too powerful. But, for Ron Paul, that means even the Civil Rights Act was too far-reaching – and he would have opposed it.
Bottom line: Ron Paul’s a colorful guy, and an important voice, to have in the mix. But God forbid he should ever become President of the United States.
That’s my parting shot for today.
