Can you believe it? Don’t they ever learn their lesson?
Here they are, once again: Republicans vowing to cut, if not end, Medicare.
The latest? Four Republican Senators – Lindsay Graham, Jim DeMint, Rand Paul, and Mike Lee – holding a news conference yesterday to announce their plan to move seniors from Medicare into the Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan as a first step, they admitted, into the total privatization and elimination of Medicare.
What are they thinking? Don’t they realize? Medicare is not only one of the most popular and most successful government programs ever, it’s working. It provides excellent, affordable care to millions of American seniors – at far cheaper rates than private insurance plans could provide. And it’s paying its own way.
Sure, we can improve Medicare. Make it more cost-efficient. Eliminate duplicate procedures. Trim the overhead. But the idea we should scrap it altogether and leave seniors on their own is insane. But that’s Republican want.n
Banning contraception. Eliminating the EPA. Repealing Obamacare. And, now, privatizing Medicare. If you ever wanted to see a political party commit collective suicide, here it is.
That’s my parting shot for today.
