It is, without doubt, the biggest event of the season. And it happens this weekend.
No, I’m not talking about the Blue State Ball in Minneapolis. Nor the latest scuffles between Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney in South Carolina.
The biggest event of the season? This weekend’s battle to death between Tom Brady of the Patriots and Tim Tebow of the Broncos.
Now, you may think it’s no contest, at all. Because Tim Tebow will tell you that Jesus is on his side. And, with Jesus calling the shots for the Broncos, how can Tebow lose?
But I’m not so sure. For a couple of reasons. One, the Patriots are just a better, stronger team. They crushed the Broncos, last time they met, on Dec. 18, 41-23. And the Patriots have a stronger defensive line. Brady’s been sacked only 32 times this season; the Broncos quarterback, 42 times.
Second, in the end, all things being considered, I don’t think Jesus gives a rat’s ass who wins this football game. Tebow may be counting on Jesus to pull him through. But I think Jesus has more important priorities. Like helping Barack Obama get re-elected.
And I don’t know about you, but I’ll be down on my knees, praying for Jesus to embarrass Tim Tebow.
That’s my parting shot for today.
