It’s tax day.
And on the Washington Mall today, thousands of tea baggers, egged on by Sarah Palin, will gather to protest having to pay their taxes.
They should get down on their knees and be grateful for what they get for their taxes, instead.
What these idiots don’t realize is that we live in the greatest country on earth. Because of the freedoms we inherit as Americans. And because of the quality of life we enjoy.
We are lucky to drive on some of the best roads, fly in the safest skies, send our kids to some of the best schools, and hike or camp in magnificent city, state, and national parks. But they all have a price. It’s called taxes.
We are lucky to be protected by the best fire departments and police departments in the world. While we breathe clean air, heat and cool our homes with electricity, drink and bathe in clean water. All of which we pay for. With taxes.
And we are lucky to be kept safe by the greatest military of the world. But our Armed Forces also have a price: Taxes.
As Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “taxes are the price we pay for civilization.”
Think of that. Remember how lucky we are. And pay your taxes – with a smile!
That’s my parting shot for today.
