Somehow it’s fitting that Hurricane Isaac ruined the first day of the Republican Convention. Isaac’s not the only character this year to whom Mitt Romney has played second fiddle.
In the primaries, remember, he was outshone by Michelle Bachman, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, and Rick Santorum.
Romney became the Republican nominee only because he was the last man standing – and the least boring – with the most money.
So he heads into Tampa with little to offer. He has zero foreign policy experience. His one attempt to show some diplomatic skill ended in disaster.
He has zero national security credentials, either. Barack Obama owns that field, with the deaths of Osama bin Laden, Moammar Qaddafi, and countless al Qaeda leaders at his command.
Romney business experience consists of nothing but enriching himself while impoverishing others. He has nothing to offer on environment or education. And he repudiates all the good things he once did on health care.
Mitt Romney walks into Tampa a second-hand, empty suit. No wonder Isaac’s a bigger story.
That’s my parting shot for today.
