The Bill Press Show

Thought-provoking insights from the left side of the political aisle.

Nixon-fying? No.

October 23, 2009

Hey, wait a minute. This is really getting nasty.

It’s OK for Republicans to disagree with President Obama, but now they’ve gone too far. Two Republican Senators, Lamar Alexander and Judd Gregg (yes, the same Judd Gregg Obama once named Commerce Secretary) have accused Obama of “Nixon-fying” the White House because of his feud with Fox News.

Boy, they really know how to hurt a Democrat. Comparing him to a Republican!

Obama’s just like Nixon, they say, because he’s compiling an Enemies List and he won’t sit down and talk with Republicans.

Which is not only silly, it’s stupid.

Obama doesn’t have an enemies list. Fox has the enemies list. With only one name on it: Barack Obama.

And no Democratic president has done more to reach out to Republicans than Obama – only to be stabbed in the back, time and time again.

When will these Republicans learn? As members of the opposition party, it’s not enough to just sit back, oppose everything President Obama does, and call him names.

No, Obama’s not Nixon-fying the White House. But Alexander, Gregg, McConnell, and others are Beck-afying the Senate. They’re nothing but a bunch of cry-babies.

That’s my parting shot for today.
