When Republicans fail to win back the House this year, they’ll realize their biggest mistake was inviting John Boehner to be their leader.
When John Boehner fails to win back the House this year, he’ll realize his second biggest mistake was inviting Barack Obama to their annual retreat. And his first biggest mistake was allowing cameras to broadcast live the entire exchange.
Standing alone, with no script and no teleprompter, for an hour and twenty minutes, Obama ate them for dinner.
He looked like a policy giant, who knew his facts cold. They looked like a bunch of political pygmies, who didn’t know what the hell they were talking about. Which, of course, is exactly who they are.
Obama was cordial. He listened politely, before destroying their phony arguments.
He was candid. He again admitted that not allowing the broadcast of final health care negotiations on C-Span was a mistake.
And he was tough. He laid them out for calling his health care plan “Bolshevism.”
And when that idiot tea-bagger Jeb Hensarling from Texas spewed a bunch of nonsense about the budget deficit, Obama didn’t hesitate to tell him that lies like that are one reason why it’s impossible to have a conservation with so many Republicans.
Obama walked into the lions’ den – and single-handedly killed the lions.
You can bet: He won’t be invited back.
That’s my parting shot for today.
