Big news on health care.
Big news on Afghanistan.
But the biggest news of all may be: Rush Limbaugh’s trying to buy the St. Louis Rams – and that’s driving a lot of football fans crazy.
And not just fans. DeMaurice Smith, head of the NFL Players Association, has written the head of the NFL, urging him to reject Limbaugh’s bid.
Players weren’t happy with Limbaugh’s racist put-down of Donovan McNabb. And they definitely haven’t forgotten how he said that watching two NFL teams play is like watching a gang fight between the Crips and the Bloods, without weapons.
Given those past comments, should Limbaugh be allowed to buy the Rams?
I say, if he makes the best offer, absolutely. After all, this is a free market country. No matter how big a pig he is, he should be able to buy any office building, any hotel, any airline, any sports team he wants.
He’s free to buy the team, but we’re also free to boycott it. To me, that would be the best of all worlds.
Limbaugh buys the Rams. And then players refuse to play, fans refuse to show up, sports writers refuse to cover them – and Pigskin Limbaugh falls flat on his face. Please, God, let it happen.
That’s my parting shot for today.
