Say it ain’t so!
For forty years, he’s eluded authorities – after one of the most daring criminal acts ever. This man deserves to remain at loose.
Of course, I’m talking about the immortal D. B. Cooper. In 1971, he hijacked a Northwest Airlines plane bound for Seattle out of Portland, Oregon. On the ground in Seattle, once he’d been handed the $200,000 in ransom and four parachutes he demanded, Cooper let all the passengers and all but one flight attendant de-board.
When the plane took off, the pilot complied with Cooper’s instructions to fly low, with the wing flaps down. Cooper, meanwhile, lowered the rear stairs of the 727, and parachuted out into the unknown – where he remains to this day.
Did he survive? Who knows?
Is he still alive? Who knows?
Despite following 1000 leads since 1971, and finding some of his cash in 1980, the FBI has never come close to finding Cooper himself. Until now! When they report having received “the most promising lead ever.”
Say it ain’t so! D. B. Cooper didn’t kill anybody. He showed a lot of mercy – and a lot of creativity. He’s one of my heroes. Let D. B. Cooper remain free!
That’s my parting shot for today.
