John Boehner’s the last person you’d ask for advice on the economy.
After all, it was Boehner and company who took a $237 billion surplus created by Bill Clinton and turned it into a $1.3 trillion national deficit, losing some 8 million jobs in the process – and then sent the entire economy into a tailspin.
Still, when Boehner does talk about the economy, at least he ought to get his facts straight. In his speech yesterday in Cleveland, he repeated a whole string of untruths.
He attacked the recent $26 billion in help for states as doing nothing but creating “government jobs.” Maybe he doesn’t know that those “government jobs” go to teachers, cops, and firemen. Does Boehner want them all fired?
He accused President Obama of being anti-small business. When, in fact, Boehner and 168 other Republicans voted against Obama’s plan to give more tax breaks to small business.
And he insisted that President Obama’s stimulus package has created no jobs. Yet Boehner himself has appeared at ground-breaking ceremonies in Ohio and praised the federal government for creating “much-needed jobs.”
Either John Boehner is just plain dumb or he’s a big fat liar.
God forbid he could ever become Speaker!
That’s my parting shot for today.
