There’s a new team in charge.
Republicans now control Congress and one of their leaders is Darrell Issa, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
Issa, who calls himself the “new Sheriff in Town,” vows to spend his time proving that President Obama is – his words! – “one of the most corrupt presidents in modern times.”
But maybe Issa’s the last one who should be making that charge. As reported by Ryan Lizza in this week’s New Yorker magazine, Issa has a lot to answer for himself.
Before coming to Congress, he was arrested for car theft – twice. He was accused of threatening an employee he was about to fire – with a gun. He was accused of arson, when a manufacturing plant he owned mysteriously burned down just days after he’d increased his fire insurance. And serious questions have been raised about his personal finances.
Not only that, reporters proved that he had lied about being named Inc. magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year and about protecting President Nixon at a World Series game when he was in the Army. None of which Issa denies.
The “new Sheriff in town,” in other words has a history of illegal activity. The only person he should be investigating – is himself!
That’s my parting shot for today.
