Circle the wagons, boys: the Tea Partiers have bagged another victim.
This time, in Utah. Where tea baggers took over the state Republican convention and threw incumbent Senator Bob Bennett to the wolves.
Bennett’s one of the most conservative members of the Senate, but he’s not conservative enough for the Tea Party crowd. His sin? With every other Republican, he voted for the Wall Street bailout. And he brought home the bacon to Utah in the form of huge, new federal projects.
That might get him hired in some states, but it got him fired in Utah. After Kay Bailey Hutchinson in Texas and Charlie Crist in Florida, Bennett became the third big-name Republican to be marched before the Tea Party firing squad.
Which may be bad news for Republicans, but is great news for Democrats.
First, because we get to watch Republicans eat their own. But second because, the more tea baggers drive the Republican Party to the extreme right-wing fringe, the more they’re going to lose independents, moderates, and anybody with any good, common sense.
What fun! We Democrats won’t have to work so hard defeating conservative Republicans. The Tea Partiers are doing our dirty work for us.
That’s my parting shot for today.
