While we’re all keeping our fingers crossed and praying that the latest trick will fix the BP oil leak, I couldn’t believe…..
Opening the Sunday papers yesterday and seeing, once again, full-page ads from BP telling us what a wonderful job they’re doing.
And, then, watching the evening news and seeing BP CEO Tony Hayward, telling us what a responsible company they are and nobody wants to clean up the Gulf more than BP does.
Gag me with a spoon!
Doesn’t BP get it? Who’s advising these morons? There’s a time for action, there’s a time for repair, there’s a time for clean-up – and there’s a time for p.r. And this is clearly NOT the time for p.r.
Nobody wants to hear that crap right now. And nobody wants to BP spending money tooting its own horn – money that could be a lot better spent in the Gulf, fixing the holy mess they’ve created.
There are reports that BP has spent over $50 million dollars so far on these self-serving TV ads, over and over above what they’ve spent on the full-page newspaper ads.
How much better that money would have been spent in the Gulf, helping fishermen and shrimpers who’ve lost their life’s work.
As President Obama might say: Forget the p.r. Plug the damned hole!
That’s my parting shot for today.
