Up to this point, it’s been nothing but speculation.
Now’s the moment of truth. This morning, we’ll know for sure how the Supreme Court has ruled on the Affordable Care Act.
I’m still hopeful the courts will do the right thing and find the entire health care law constitutionally sound. But, no matter how the court rules, we progressives can’t back down.
No matter how the court rules, President Obama did the right thing in extending health care to 36 million Americans who couldn’t afford it.
No matter how the court rules, President Obama did the right thing – in banning insurance companies from denying us coverage because of a pre-existing condition. He did the right thing in helping seniors survive the so-called donut hole. He did the right thing in allowing kids to stay on their parents’ health care plan until the age of 26.
No matter how the court rules, we progressives can’t back down.
If they uphold the entire statute, we need to work to make it stronger and better.
If they invalidate all of parts of it, we need to bring it back.
No matter how the court rules, universal health care is the right thing to do.
That’s my parting shot for today.
