Did Harry Reid go over the line again?
Republicans are accusing him of going too far when, asked a couple of days ago to comment on anti-immigrant steps taken recently by Republicans, he said: “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican.”
Over the line? No way! Harry Reid is absolutely correct.
Why would anybody vote for somebody who’s waging war against them? And there’s no doubt Republicans have once again declared war on Latinos. They do so every election cycle.
This year alone, they started a campaign to change the 14th Amendment to deny citizenship to children of illegal immigrants born in this country. They tried to legalize race baiting against Hispanics in Arizona. They’ve introduced an even worse bill in Florida. And they’ve blocked President Obama’s attempts to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
Years ago, the father of Oklahoma Congressman J.C. Watts famously observed: “Any African-American who votes for a Republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders.”
Harry Reid’s right. The same could be said today – of any Latino who votes for a Republican. They’re cutting their own throat.
That’s my parting shot for today.
