Washington’s full of snake-oil salesmen, among individuals and groups, but if there’s one organization I have complete confidence in, it’s CREW – or Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. You’ve heard CREW’s Executive Director, Melanie Sloan, on our show many times.
CREW has one mission: to expose and root out corruption in our nation’s capital. And they’re fearless about it. They do their homework, they know their facts, and they don’t care whose political career they may end.
They’ve gone after Republicans David Vitter and Ted Stevens. They’ve gone after Democrats John Murtha and Charlie Rangel.
Which is why we should take very seriously CREW’s demand to the FTC for an investigation into Sean Hannity’s so-called “Freedom Concerts.”
They are sold as events to raise funds for scholarships for children of killed and wounded service members. That’s why people go. That’s why people write checks.
If, in fact, most of the money raised, or even a big chunk of it, goes instead to pay for private jets and luxurious accommodations for Sean Hannity, the “Freedom Concerts” are a total sham – and should be exposed as such.
That’s my parting shot for today.
