At the White House, there are a lot of meetings these days on Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, the president met with congressional leaders for an hour and a half.
On Wednesday, he met with his top advisors again for three hours. And he’ll sit down with the same group for another three hours on Friday.
Now, I think it’s great that President Obama is taking so much time before announcing whether or not to send more troops to Afghanistan.
But I have a sinking feeling he’s already made up his mind.
Fact: the White House has announced the president has ruled out withdrawing all troops from Afghanistan.
Fact: President Obama told congressional leaders he’s ruled out significantly reducing troop levels. And he’s also ruled out shifting our mission in Afghanistan into one of just hunting terrorists.
What does that tell you?
It tells me he’s already made up his mind to send more troops. With all these meetings and all this talk, the only question left on the table is – NOT: Will we send more troops? BUT: How Many? 15,000? 25,000? 45,000?
God, I hope I’m wrong. But I’d be willing to bet – I’m right.
That’s my parting shot for today.
