Did you hear?
They’ve changed the name of the new congressional committee charged with coming up with an additional $1.5 trillion in savings by November 23.
It’s no longer called the Super Committee. It’s now the Grover Norquist Committee. At least, it might as well be.
Because all six Republicans named to the committee have signed Norquist’s pledge never, never, never to vote to raise taxes. On anybody. Or on any industry. Never, never, never.
This not only proves the committee is a dead-end street. It’s impossible to reach a deal when half of the members draw a line in the sand before the first meeting.
But, what I wanna know is: When is somebody going to challenge this Norquist pledge? It’s outrageous.
After all, these members of Congress take an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. How dare they also take an oath to uphold and defend a lobbyist?
That’s who Grover Norquist is. A Republican lobbyist. Representing big corporations who don’t want to pay any taxes.
These six Republicans, and many others, have put loyalty to Norquist over loyalty to their country. It’s un-constitutional. And it’s un-American.
That’s my parting shot for today.
