We all know about Wikileaks.
But there’s another set of leaks I find much more interesting. They’re the Foxleaks: two emails (so far) from Bill Sammon, Washington Bureau Chief of Fox News – in which Sammon clearly orders Fox reporters and anchors to distort the news.
In the first, Sammon tells Fox on-air talent never to use the phrase “public option.” That sounds too good, Sammon says. We must help our Republican friends trick the public into believing the public option is a bad thing. Use the phrase “government option.”
In the latest email, Sammon goes after global warming. Which, of course, nobody on Fox has ever admitted is real.
Never talk about climate change, admonishes boss Sammon, without IMMEDIATELY adding that, of course, global warming is a subject on which many scientists disagree. Even though it’s, in fact, a subject on which no reputable scientist does disagree.
The Foxleaks remind us of two things: One, you can’t trust anything you hear or see on Fox. Two, the lies on Fox come from the top down.
They’re not “fair and balanced.” They’re false and manipulated.
That’s my parting shot for today.
