Could we please, please, stop talking about Juan Williams.
OK, so he was fired for making a provocative comment about spotting Muslims in “Muslim garb,” boarding an airplane.
Although it was a dumb thing for Juan to say, I don’t think NPR President Vivian Schiller should have fired him for it.
But, having done so, the last thing she should have done – was apologize for it. As top dog at NPR, she has the right to hire or fire whomever she wants, whenever she wants.
But, instead of sticking to her guns, she caved in to all the noise from Fox News and right-wing Republicans and said she’s sorry – not for firing Williams, but for not doing it more gracefully.
What nonsense on her part. And, by the way, why is everybody treating Juan Williams like such a victim, anyway?
With millions of Americans who lost their job one or two years ago, and haven’t been able to find another job since…
We don’t have to feel sorry for Juan Williams, who was fired and rehired within 24 hours – for $2 million.
That’s my parting shot for today.
