Tornadoes. Typhoons. Hurricanes. Floods.
As if we didn’t already have enough to worry about, no we have to worry about “derechos” – or “land hurricanes” – one of which slammed into Washington, D.C. Saturday night with 80 mph, but no rain, leaving trees down, homes and cars destroyed, and several people dead.
What’s going on? How could anyone possibly doubt what’s going on? Look at the evidence.
Glaciers are disappearing, if not already gone. We have more devastating tornadoes than ever before, and more of them. Same with hurricanes. Sea levels are rising. Icebergs and polar ice caps are breaking up. Forest fires, more than ever before, are out of control. Thousands of new record-high temperatures are set every day. The country is, literally, burning up.
And there are still idiots out there who deny it has anything to do with global warming. And, while they are only a small minority, their strident, vocal opposition rules the day – and prevents any serious efforts to deal with global warming.
Someday they will be held responsible for almost destroying this planet. If only it’s not too late to save it.
That’s my parting shot for today.
