After driving Dede Scozzafava out of the race for New York’s 23rd Congressional District, Tea Baggers, led by Dick Armey, have their sights on other so-called Republican moderates.
Top of the list: Florida Governor Charlie Crist, running for Senate. And, now, running scared.
So scared, Crist denies he ever supported President Obama’s stimulus package. When there is plenty of evidence he did.
On February 3, he signed a letter with 18 other governors expressing support for the recovery package.
Later that month, at a rally with Obama in Fort Myers, he told the crowd “It’s important that we pass this stimulus package.”
And why shouldn’t he support it? Florida’s one of the top states to benefit from the stimulus. So far, it’s received over $400 million out of a total $6.7 billion in stimulus dollars it was awarded. And it ranks #4 among all the states in jobs saved or created: 29,320.
Any governor would have been stupid to oppose the stimulus package.
But any governor would also be stupid to support the stimulus, and then deny he did.
That’s my parting shot for today.
