What a contrast! President Obama addressed the UN General Assembly yesterday. Both Obama and Mitt Romney spoke to the Clinton Global Initiative gathering.
But all America was talking about was – football!
With professional refs locked out by NFL owners, and amateur refs taking over, this football season has been a disaster so far. But Monday night’s call in the Seahawks/Packers game was the last straw.
There’s no doubt the refs got it wrong. The video doesn’t lie. It was a Packers player, not a Seahawk, who caught that pass. That call was made by a rent-a-ref who’d never before worked anything higher than a junior college game. Yet the NFL backed him up – and awarded the Seahawks a victory.
Enough already! The greedy NFL owners are determined to destroy the game of football rather than pay professional refs a decent wage with good benefits.
You know it’s bad when even anti-union Scott Walker and Paul Ryan joined President Obama yesterday in begging owners to bring back experienced, union refs.
Walker and Ryan have finally learned an important lesson: scabs can never do the job a union worker can do.
That’s my parting shot for today.
