Okay, I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of Bill Maher’s defending Rush Limbaugh.
He did it again Friday night, accusing liberals of over-reacting to Limbaugh’s attacks on law student Sandra Fluke. Even Rush has his First Amendment rights, Maher insisted. Plus, he’s already apologized. And besides, he said, this was just the case of “a guy made a bad joke.”
No, no, no, no!
Rush didn’t just make a “bad joke.” He called her a “slut” and a “prostitute.” And, by Media Matters count, he repeated his attacks on 70 different times over three days.
And when he made his phony apology – driven more by advertisers bolting from the show than by any remorse – he only apologized for using the two words “slut” and “prostitute.” He still hasn’t apologized for calling her a loose woman who just want to have as much recreational sex as possible – and have us pay for her.
No, liberals aren’t making too much of Rush’s vile language. Liberals, in fact, aren’t doing much at all, except to condemn it. It is advertisers who are speaking out the loudest: 98 of them now, refusing to run their spots on this show.
You’re a great comedian and a great liberal, Bill Maher. But on this one you are dead wrong!
That’s my parting shot for today.
