Hey, I’m starting to think there are two Barack Obamas.
First, there was the Obama we saw during the 2008 campaign: strong, forceful, on fire, ready to kick some ass.
Then, there was the Obama we saw in the White House in 2009: weak, meek, holding back, almost afraid of his own shadow. And, meanwhile, getting nothing done on health care, his number one priority.
In fact, when Scott Brown was elected in Massachusetts, it looked for a while like Obama might even abandon health care.
But suddenly, a couple of months ago, Obama Superman came back.
He gave a rousing speech on health care to a joint session of Congress. He held town halls around the country, building up support. He called top Democrats and Republicans to Blair House for a seven-hour summit. And then he went to work, twisting arms.
And look what happened. He got a bill through both houses of Congress. He signed health care reform into law. He also pushed both the House and Senate to pass the follow-up, reconciliation bill.
And, along the way, he also negotiated a new arms treaty with Russia.
The old Barack Obama is back!
I don’t know about you, but I like this Barack Obama better.
That’s my parting shot for today.
