What if you gave a rally and nobody came?
That’s what happened to the Tea Party yesterday. They held what was billed as a “major rally” outside the U.S. Capitol yesterday. They invited lots of right-wing members of Congress. And Fox News, of course, agreed to cover it live.
And, guess what? 100 people showed up! What an embarrassment. There were two reporters present for every one protestor.
Desperately trying to explain why they were covering an event that had fewer people than the line to get into the Air and Space Museum, Fox News blamed the weather for keeping people away.
What a joke! Remember Madison? Thirty thousand people showed up in freezing cold, arctic weather to protest Scott Walker.
The truth of it is, more people didn’t show up yesterday because the Tea Party has lost its appeal. The latest CNN poll, in fact, showed that only 47 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party.
Why? Because people have finally figured it out. The Tea Party doesn’t really stand for anything. It’s just a collection of old, cranky, drooling, disgruntled misfits who want to collect their Social Security checks – and screw everybody else.
The Tea Party is dead!
That’s my parting shot for today.
